About Trainside
An independent guide, not an agency.
Trainside helps people choose where to rent in Kuala Lumpur by the thing listing sites leave out: how you'll get to work. It covers 817 condos, serviced residences and apartments within walking distance of 159 stations, from the city centre to the suburbs where most of the city actually lives.
We don't rent homes, take fees from tenants or pass your details to agents. When a home fits, we link you to its live listings and you deal with the agent or owner directly.
How we measure
Walking times
Each home's walk is the shortest route to the station along footpaths mapped in OpenStreetMap, at 80 metres a minute, plus a minute from the entrance to the platform. Where no footpath route exists we use the straight-line distance with a 30% allowance for detours, and say so on the page. Walk it yourself before you sign.
Commutes
Train times are worked out on the rail network: the distance between stations at each line's average speed, half a minute at every stop, and an average wait of half the time between trains at rush hour, so about two minutes on the Kelana Jaya Line but fifteen on KTM Komuter. Each change adds three minutes' walk between platforms plus the wait for the next train. They're a weekday estimate, not a timetable.
Move-in costs
Deposits follow common practice in KL: usually two months' rent plus half a month for utilities. Stamp duty uses the rates in force since 1 January 2025, on the whole annual rent, plus the fee for your stamped copy. Each owner sets their own terms.
Rents, photos and floor plans
These are still being collected, one fact at a time. Until we've checked them for a building, its rents and plans are estimates for that type of home in that part of the city, its photos are examples and its facilities are what's usual for the type; a building can have checked layouts and facilities while its rent is still an estimate. Some buildings have real photos: some shared by photographers under a free licence, credited to them, and some from the developer's own website, which belong to the developer. Interiors from a developer are show units, so the home you rent may be furnished differently. Floor plans show a building's real layouts and sizes once we've found them, and example layouts until then; we use the developer's drawing where they publish one, and our own simple sketch otherwise. If you own a photo or plan on this site and want it removed, contact us and we'll take it down. Pages for buildings that haven't been checked are kept out of search results.
